Too often, peak oil and climate change are still discussed
separately. But Britain's farmers don't seem to have much trouble
putting them in the same sentence, and are staking out a plan of

Blood Diamonds to Blood Aluminum! Tuesday April 17 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Humanist Hall, 390 - 27th St., Oakland between Broadway and Telegraph
The Struggle in Guinea: on the front lines of the movement for African liberation," Community Forum, Everyone’s talking about
blood diamonds, but in Guinea it’s blood aluminum! Uhuru Movement leader Omali Yeshitela presents an in-depth analysis of the struggle in Guinea of the African working class for control over their resources and economic infrastructure. Humanist Hall, 390 – 27th Street at Broadway, Oakland.
$5-25 suggested donation. Contact 510-625-1106 or 510-569-9620.
Omali Yeshitela's Tour is part of the Burning Spear Uhuru Publications tour for "One Africa! One Nation!"
Yeshitela’s new book, One Africa! One Nation! compiles powerful presentations by representatives of the ASI, offering a glimpse at efforts to build that organization and the significance of its emergence in the world. It includes moving reports by Yeshitela as well as by Africans from Europe, the Caribbean, South America, and Africa itself. They expose the basis for poverty and suffering throughout the African world, and document the expropriation of Africa's resources through the slave trade, direct colonialism and the economic and political domination that continues today. The book also offers timely analysis of recent events including the devastation in black communities after Hurricane Katrina, and political struggles in Haiti.

Born in Flames (1983) Wed Apr 18 9pm
Set ten years after the most peaceful revolution in United States history, a revolution in which a socialist government gains power, this films presents a dystopia in which the issues of many progressive groups - minorities, liberals, gay rights organizations, feminists - are ostensibly dealt with by the government, and yet there are still problems with jobs, with gender issues, with governmental preference and violence. In New York City, in this future time, a group of women decide to organize and mobilize, to take the revolution farther than any man - and many women - ever imagined in their lifetimes. panel discussion on ranked- choice April 19, at 12 noon. FREE
(also known as instant run-off) voting that is being hosted
by the Commonwealth Club 595 Market San Francisco on Thursday,
The title of the forum is "Ranked-Choice Voting: Will California
Follow the Bay Area’s Lead?" It will be an important panel
discussion about the future of IRV in California, including
election administration and politics, and more.
In 2004, San Francisco voters started using ranked-choice voting
(RCV) in city and county elections. In addition to assuring that
winning candidates are elected with over 50 percent of the vote,
the new voting system has increased voter turn-out and eliminated
the need for -- and expense of -- run-off elections.
Now, Alameda and Santa Clara counties are developing RCV systems
for their 2008 elections. As these San Francisco Bay Area counties
lead the way in changing how their citizens vote, what are the
implications for adoption of this voting method state-wide?
Additionally, what steps would ease the process of implementing RCV
for other jurisdictions?
I urge you to attend and participate, lending your thoughts and
opinions to this important subject. The forum is free and includes
lunch, but you must RSVP at www.voicesofreform.org. See below for
details about panelists, address (accessible by Muni, at 2nd and
Market), and more.
Please forward this notice to your own email lists. I hope to see
you there. Steven Hill

Kinetic Steam Works: Pre Coachella Steam-up
Oakland, April 21, 2007, 3-7pm
Kinetic Steam Works will host dynamic demonstrations
of steam power with a collection of repurposed vintage
equipment driving interactive sculptures just days
before their appearance at the Coachella festival in
the Palm Springs desert.
An Auxiliary boiler, assorted mill engines, and a 1920
Case traction engine are the force behind a collection
of awe-inspiring and personally engaging sculptures
including a hand fabricated working carousel by Jamie
Vaida, brass instruments plumbed with falling water
and rising steam by Stephen Rademaker, a towering 22'
tall fire and waterfall by Orion Fredricks, and a live
performance by spygirl and Sean Orlando. "The Dingus
Smashing Show" uses a 1920's ironworker to crush
anything placed between its gears, a gross example of
juvenile delinquency at it's most entertaining.
The Pre Coachella Steam-up happens Saturday, April
21st at NIMBY warehouse, 1649 28th street Oakland.
Kinetic Steam Works is a bay area arts collective of
engineers, artists and steam enthusiasts. We marry
kinetic art and industry by re assigning mechanical
relics of the pre-petroleum era with steampunk
creativity.
Don't miss this rare chance to see us all steamed up.

The 10th Annual Eat and Be Mary!
Potluck • Clothing Swap • Fashion Show
Yes, it's hard to believe, but we're doing it again this year. Time to drag out those dusty musty garments that have accumulated in your closet all year; Time to pit your skills against those scary kitchen implements in an attempt to whip up something truly inspired; and Time to gather your nerves and show us what you've got. Literally!
Volunteer
Note :: Due to the constraints of the new location (and our sheer laziness) - THERE WILL BE NO TALENT SHOW this year. Repeat: There will be no talent show this year. Spontaneous acts of bewildering & unusual talents will be encouraged - just not organized on a stage. Pick a corner and let 'er rip! But we will be rockin' the pile and celebrating in our own special way.
Still uncertain of the concept? Check out the amazing Tomlapse video from last year (thanks to the kind & talented thomas and peef).

We will be back in ‘07 with our biggest and most ambitious projects to date, continuing to create a space for sacred dance and peak experience for the community.
Unlike many funded art projects, like all Large Scale Sound & Art Camps, we get ZERO financial support from Burning Man of any kind. We are totally reliant on the support of the SF dance community and camp members paying dues to bring you the joy that is a big reason why a lot of us go to Burning Man and have the amazing experiences that we do. Please come out in support of our efforts, with a diverse line up of kick ass talent on the cheap. Come be a part of the evocation. With

A restaurant in North Beach, Peña Pachamama, will be hosting a vegan brunch the last three Sundays in April, starting tomorrow. This is a trial run for all involved, including the vegan chef, Doug, a friend of a friend, with a chance of many more dates to follow. This is a non-vegetarian restaurant offering an entirely vegan brunch on a trial basis, so please support it!
According to the chef, the food will be delectable, and it will be offered in the style of dim sum -- small plates offered to all, in turn. The food is fresh, organic, spicy, delicious and simple. It is peasant food -- of, by, and for the people -- like Grandma would make, if Grandma was
vegan.

Between Fulton and Lincoln on Great HWY http://oceanbeachfoundation.org
http://sanfrancisco.tribe.net/event/ba649f75-101f-47bf-976a-41900c40a672
Date & Time: 2007-04-22 2:00 PM
Location: Ocean Beach Stairwell 18-20
LEAVE NO TRACE
In celebration of the beach we love, and fought so hard to save, San Francisco's Ocean Beach Foundation announces its First Annual Leave No Trace! Beach Clean up and Bonfire Party!
Featuring music from:
Benchun (False Profit)
Alxndr (Downlow)
*EARTH DAY* SUNDAY, APRIL 22
Stairwell 18-20 of Ocean Beach (at the Great Highway and Fulton St.)
Beach Cleanup 2 p.m. ? 4:30 p.m.
DJ Benchun, Alxndr and Special Guests 4:30 p.m. ? 9 p.m.
The Ocean Beach Foundation, or OBF, was formed in response to an imminent ban of bonfires at Ocean Beach (the last refuge for beach bonfires in San Francisco), and stopped successfully stopped the Ban by offering a community solution.
In cooperation with Burners without Borders, the Surfrider foundation and the National Park Service (NPS), fire pits were installed at Ocean Beach to continue the age old tradition of enjoying fires at the beach.
ALERT ! Beginning June 1, the Park Police will issue tickets to any beach goers burning fires outside of the fire pits, and not in accordance to the beach's "Leave No Trace" policy? Our April 22nd event is intending to be fun, and raise awareness of the new way of sustainability and community support at Ocean Beach.
LEAVE NO TRACE !
1.Burn Clean Wood: Clean wood is: from a tree, driftwood, wood purchased at Safeway. Clean Wood is not: wood with nails, staples, paint, chemicals, or other poisonous compounds.
2. No Glass or Glass bottles on the beach: These bottles break and kids and their families cut their feet on them.
3. Pick up your TRASH: Leave no trace. Take out what you bring in. Recycle your plastic bottles and leave the beach nice and clean.
Background:
The OBF (www.oceanbeachfoundation.org) alerted the public of the proposed bonfire ban and galvanized overwhelming opposition. At OBF's prompting, the public sent more than 1,600 letters opposed to the ban, forcing the GGNRA to back off plans for a ban.
OBF is working to create a model community beach that provides safe and responsible access to all.
The Ocean Beach Foundation supports the installation of Fire Pits at Ocean Beach, and is working with the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Burners without Borders and the Surfrider Foundation to install more pits and educate the public on proper beach usage.
Much is still needed to make Ocean Beach a community destination for bonfires in years to come. The installation of fire pits was made possible by the community raising nearly $40,000 and more is needed to install more firepits and to eventually purchase a beach sifter.

Tell your friends, tell the world....Come un-pollute, dance and celebrate on Earth Day at Ocean Beach!

San Francisco Walk Against Rape(SFWAR) Mission Dolores Park
A Tribute to Sexual Assault Awareness Month
Saturday, April 28, 2007 10 AM http:// www.sfwar.org

Sat 04/28 10:30am–12:00pm spell "IMPEACH" with human bodies on OCEAN BEACH
OCEAN BEACH: This time we're shooting for 2,000 people (the Park Service has
all-but-sworn that they'll issue the permit, but it is not yet in my hand). This
time we'll probably spell out "IMPEACH..." in 100-foot letters followed by
"NOW!" in slightly larger letters: "IMPEACH... NOW!"
Our exact message will depend on how big a crowd we've got registered. In
January, 90% of the attendees registered during the ten days prior to the event.
So, am I worried that right now, three weeks ahead of the event, we've only got
278 people registered? No, I'm not worried -- half the time I'm absolutely
terrified. I've got a helicopter reserved, a photographer lined up, volunteers
willing to help outline the letters that morning (this thing's going to stretch
600-700 feet across the beach!), and I spend every night dreaming my old
wrestling-an-octopus-underwater dream. In my better moments, however, I do feel
surrendered to whatever outcome transpires...
But no matter how many people turn out that day, I intend a PEACEFUL event!
While the first Beach Impeach was indeed a powerful statement, most of the
attendees (including me) felt that it was the most peaceful and gentle protest
they'd ever attended -- in fact, it was one of the more peaceful and enjoyable
days of many of our lives. No speeches, no harangues (no one needs convincing
any more), just 1,000 citizens (and dogs) quietly lying down together to draw a
line in the sand and send a message to the world. And I intend that April 28 be
the same way. I've received numerous suggestions that this time around we have
speakers, or that we spell out a stronger statement (several votes for the
f-word), but that's not the deal. Expect laughter, camaraderie, the woosh of the
ocean, and for a while the chatter of a helicopter or two or three...? (The
weather in January was perfect -- windless, cloudless, sixty-five degrees -- and
while we of course must take whatever weather we get this time around, it sure
would be nice to have a repeat.) To register please visit:

It's Weirdo de Mayo, and the beginning of the outdoor events season! For

SOMA district of San Francisco. At that intersection, there will be a
mandala made of grass – the world's only urban crop circle – where
festival-goers can relax, connect, and learn about fostering peace.
Please bike or take public transportation to the faire. There will be a
bike valet service provided by the SF Bicycle Coalition. The faire is
located two blocks south of Market Street & Van Ness.

It's amazing this is still on the market like aspartame which
incidentally also caused mammary tumors in original studies.
RBST increases the insulin growth factor which is the regulator of
cancer. There is a reason for IGF. When a baby nurses at its
mother's breast it has to double its size. When an adult drinks milk
it causes large cell replication which equals cancer. Then Monsanto
comes along and genetically engineered the bovine growth hormone
which increases IGF. It's like pouring gasoline on fire.
If anyone uses dairy they better be sure its organic.
